Biennale Arte Fabbrile – 50esimo Anniversario

27th OCTOBER 2026

Stia Biennale in Strasbourg for the assembly of Europe’s ironworking cities

The Stia Biennale took part in the annual assembly of the Ring of the European Cities of Iron Works, held in Strasbourg from 16 to 19 September 2026, with meetings at the European Parliament. The Biennale was represented by President Piero Milli and Adele Amato from the Associazione Autonoma per la Biennale d’Arte Fabbrile.

The event brought together mayors and delegates from member cities, representatives of the blacksmithing and cultural heritage communities, and Members of the European Parliament. Discussions centred on the theme “Blacksmithing as cultural heritage: promoting and passing on the craft to new generations”, offering an opportunity to reflect on the transmission of craft skills and the conditions needed for the profession to survive and develop.

The Ring’s cities share a history shaped by ironworking, a tradition that has influenced their places, livelihoods and community identities. The assembly provided a forum for exchanging these experiences, highlighting the value of international cooperation in preserving and raising awareness of a shared European heritage, often rooted in smaller towns.

The meetings at the European Parliament brought these issues into an institutional setting, connecting local experiences with a broader discussion on cultural heritage and the future of traditional crafts. The programme also included an introduction to the Parliament’s role and activities, and a visit to the hemicycle during a plenary session.

For the Stia Biennale, participating in the Strasbourg assembly was an opportunity to renew its commitment to the European network and affirm a shared vision: passing on skills, encouraging exchanges between master craftspeople and young learners, and keeping the connection between blacksmithing and local communities alive. This commitment continues through exchanges and collaborations between the ironworking cities, in a spirit of friendship and solidarity.
